Wade and Phillips go to Vancouver in NLL Draft

by Dan Marshall

The 2018 NLL draft was a big day for a pair of Nanaimo Timbermen.

Defender Nate Wade was selected in the third round 29th overall by the Vancouver Warriors, then in the sixth round the Warriors selected lefty Jon Phillips.

Both Wade and Phillips have been members of the Timbermen for two seasons.

They joined the WLA in the same draft back in 2017.

Wade was selected second overall while Phillips was chosen ninth.

Both finished their junior careers with the 2016 Delta Islanders team that advanced all the way to the Minto Cup.

Wade, Phillips, Chase Fraser, Evan Messenger, and Adam Jay are all current Nanaimo players that were also part of that Delta squad.

Nate Wade has six points in 35 games played with the Timbermen and appeared in all five playoff games for Nanaimo is 2018.

Jon Phillips had a breakout year offensively in 2018, he led the Tmen with 53 points in 15 games.

He also scored the memorable double overtime goal in Nanaimo's only playoff victory this past summer in Victoria.

In his rookie season Phillips had 28 points in 16 games.

Wade and Phillips will be part of Vancouver team that has Nanaimo connections already.

Timbermen captain Brody Eastwood and Evan Messenger are on the Warriors 2019 NLL roster.
