Tmen grab Soucy and Hall in first round of WLA Draft

The Nanaimo Timbermen had two picks in the top five of the WLA draft.

At third overall the Tmen took Nanaimo Junior A defender Evan Soucy.

Soucy was thrilled to be staying with the organization.

"I'm very excited to be staying home and I can't wait to get back in the box this summer."

Victoria Junior and current Las Vegas Desert Dog Griffin Hall was chosen fifth overall and at 6'5 and weighing 210lbs he'll add some bite to the Timbermen back end.

The Timbermen stayed home with the 12th overall selection with defender Evan Pattison.

Pattison finished the 2022 season in Nanaimo after playing most of his career in New Westminster.

The Timbermen had back to back picks in the third round and selected transition specialist Easton Ong from the Junior A Timbermen and Brian Simmons of the Coquitlam Junior Adanacs.

Rounding out Nanaimo's 2023 draft was Andrew Bishop of the Junior Salmonbellies in the fourth and Nanaimo Junior Karson Gregory in round five.

2023 will also be remember as a trailblazing year for the Nanaimo Junior A program with the top 3 selections in the draft all coming out of the Harbour City.

Jacob Dunbar went first overall to Burnaby, 2022 Nanaimo Junior Captain Arthur Miller went second to Victoria and Nanaimo kept Soucy with the third pick in the draft.
