Tmen drop opener 13-9 to Salmonbellies

by Dan Marshall

The Nanaimo Timbermen hit the floor for their first game since 2019 on Saturday night.

The Tmen had a strong first and a solid third period but a six goal New Westminster run in the middle frame helped the Salmonbellies to a 13-9 win.

Newcomer Taggart Clark led the offense with two goals and two assists while 2019 leading scorer Jon Phillips had four helpers.

The game was the first as team captain for veteran Nate Wade.

He was given the 'C' by new bench boss Tewanee Joseph and the rest of the coaching staff last week.

It was also the first start in net for recent signing Ethan Woods.

The 6'4 goaltender made 32 saves in his debut.

This week the Timbermen have a pair of games against the Coquitlam Adanacs.

Nanaimo is on the road May 31 and then face the A's at home on Saturday June 4 at 7 p.m.
