Tmen drop a close one 9-8 in Burnaby

by Dan Marshall

Close.... but one goal away.

Nanaimo lost 9-8 in Burnaby on Friday to drop to 1-2 on the season.

Jon Phillips and Colton Clark led the way with four points each for the Tmen.

It was a goaltending battle of former Timbermen starter Zak Boychuk against current starter Pete Dubenski in a game where the shots finished 47-45 for the Lakers.

Of note Timbermen rookie Chaser Fraser finished 14-18 in the faceoff circle, putting him over 50% on draws in all three games this season.

This week Nanaimo has a game on the road on Wednesday in Langley and a home tilt against the Salmonbellies Saturday at 6 p.m.
