Timbermen end season with home win versus Coquitlam

by Dan Marshall

2017 ended on a winning note for the Timbermen with a win over Coquitlam on the final night of the season.

It capped off a 1-1 week with home games versus Burnaby and the Adanacs.

In Saturday's weekend opener the Tmen lost 12-9 to the Lakers.

Ryan Lee had a big night with seven points, while rookie Chase Fraser chipped in four points.

Goalies Pete Dubenski and Mike DeGirolamo split the netminding duties.

Sunday was a stingy defensive night for Nanaimo in an 8-5 over the A's.

Fraser had another four point game while Jordan Gilles and Brody Eastwood added three points apiece.

Mike DeGirolamo went the distance in goal for the victory.

The Timbermen finish 2017 in fifth place with a 7-10-1 record, a notable improvement from 2016 but still short of their goal of making the post season.

Chase Fraser and Ryan Lee finished the season as the team's leading scorers  with 52 points each - Fraser ended the campaign as the WLA's top scoring rookie.
