Timbermen battle Shamrocks, now ready for stretch drive

by Dan Marshall

There was just one game on the schedule for Nanaimo last week and was  an all island road match up in Victoria.

The Timbermen were short manned but put in a big effort in an 11-10 loss to  the Shamrocks.

Nanaimo got important performances from Junior A call ups Thomas Vaesen  (3pts) and Will Johansen (1pt), and were led by Brody Eastwood's five point  effort and the 42 saves of Charles Claxton.

With that result and other recent scores Nanaimo is in a three way tie for  fourth place in the WLA standings with Burnaby and Langley.

This weekend the team has a pair of home games at Frank Crane Arena.

Langley is in town on Saturday at 7pm, with the Bellies coming Sunday at  6pm.

The Timbermen line up should have some key weapons back for this weekend  with the push to the playoffs clearly on.

There were a pair of minor transactions made at the WLA trade deadline with  Nick Preston and Anthony Hallborg being released from the club.
