Timbermen advance to WLA playoff final

by Dan Marshall

The Nanaimo Timbermen will play for a BC Senior A Championship after advancing to the WLA final.

Nanaimo won 9-6, 12-9, 11-8 OT, and 9-7 over the Coquitlam Adanacs to complete a four game sweep.

Offensively the Tmen were led by Zach Manns with a team high 17 points in the first round of the post season, and Jon Phillips who had a team high seven goals.

Devlin Shanahan backstopped the team to all four victories with a league best 7.23 goals against average.

Since Nanaimo's return to the WLA in 2005 this is their first playoff series win.

The Timbermen previously lost to New West in five games in 2007, had a five game setback to Victoria in 2018 and went down in four games to the Shamrocks in 2019.

The Game 4 victory over the A's capped a week of many accolades for the team.  Tewanee Joseph was named WLA Coach of the Year, Adam Wiedemann was the co-winner of the Top Defensive Player award and Wiedemann, Manns and Phillips were named to WLA All-Star teams.

The Timbermen would like to congratulate the Coquitlam Adanacs on a tremendous season and hard fought playoff series.

Nanaimo will play the winner of the Langley versus Victoria semi in the league final.
