NANAIMO — The Senior A Timbermen had three of the top nine selections in the 2017 WLA Draft.

After the Langley Thunder picked Coquitlam Junior Tyler Pace first overall, Nanaimo chose Nate Wade and Chase Fraser from the Delta Junior Islanders.

Wade had 54 points in 65 games in his Junior career, which was played mostly with Victoria.

Fraser had 178 points in 48 games as a Junior in Delta and is known as an excellent faceoff man.

The Timbermen's third pick in the draft Jon Phillips was chosen ninth overall and also played for Delta.

In a four year career he had 230 points in 71 games.

All three of Nanaimo's picks were part of a BCJALL Championship with the Islanders in 2016 and participated in the Minto Cup.

In the third round the Timbermen added Adam Jay (16th) and Ryan Lewis (18th) who both finished the season in Delta.

Jay started with the Junior Shamrocks and Ryan Lewis spent much of 2016 with the Junior Timbermen.

Round four brought Nanaimo Danny Spagnuolo (23rd) of the Adanacs and Junior alumni McLean Chicquen (27th).

In the later rounds the Timbermen added Ryan Taylor, Aaron Madaisky, Brock Thompson-Marshall, Darrin Wilson, Andy Campbell, and Steve Ackinclose.
