One win puts Nanaimo in the playoffs

by Dan Marshall

There's one game left on the WLA calendar and a win will put the Timbermen in the playoffs for the second year in a row.

Nanaimo is in Burnaby on July 26 for the regular season finale with everything on the line.

It's a simple scenario - just win to advance.

The Tmen have won the previous two meetings by scores of 8-5 at home and 9-7 on the road.

This past week Nanaimo won 13-9 over Langley and lost 12-10 in Maple Ridge.

Colton Clark and Jon Phillips led the offense both nights.

Clark had seven points Saturday and six on Sunday, while Phillips notched five on Saturday and six on Saturday.

Nanaimo's record is 10-7, which means after the dust settled from the second to last weekend of the season the team is in a tie for second place in the league.

The Tmen cannot catch Victoria or Maple Ridge in the standings, but before the final week starts the options that remain are third, fourth, or fifth.

The last game of the regular season is in essence a playoff game.

It's hard to think of a more important regular season game in the club's history.
