NLL Defenders Return to Timbermen

by Dan Marshall

The Timbermen would like to welcome back several key defenders with NLL experience.

Nate Wade, Adam Jay, Jordan Gilles, Drew Belgrave, and Mason Pynn will be patrolling the back end in Nanaimo in 2019.

Gilles just finished his fourth season with the Colorado Mammoth with four points and 78 loose balls in 18 games.

The 24-year-old was originally draft by Nanaimo in 2016 and is coming off a 2018 WLA campaign that earned him Second Team All-Star honours.

He had 14 points in 14 games with the Timbermen.

Both Nate Wade and Adam Jay came to Nanaimo in the 2017 WLA draft.

They be returning after Wade finished off an NLL campaign in Vancouver and Jay recently wrapped up a playoff run with the Toronto Rock.

Wade and Jay were mainstays for the Tmen in the 2018 WLA campaign with 17 appearances each.

Drew Belgrave was Nanaimo's top pick in the 2018 draft and had a strong rookie campaign at both ends of the floor, including a WLA First Team All-Star selection.

The transition specialist out of the New West Junior A program had 18 points in 18 games.

He also played every game for the San Diego Seals in the NLL this past season with five points and 50 loose balls in 18 contests.

Mason Pynn, who's property of the Saskatchewan Rush, was a second round Timbermen pick in 2015.

The 25-year-old Victoria native got into eight games in 2018 and is one of the club's steadiest defenders.

The Timbermen will announce more player signings in the coming days.

Nanaimo opens the season in Victoria on Friday May 24th with the home opener set for Sunday May 26th versus New West.
