Nanaimo splits with Langley and Maple Ridge

by Dan Marshall

The Nanaimo Timbermen home opener was a rematch of the 2022 WLA Finals.

The Langley Thunder took the game 10-5 at Frank Crane Arena.

Langley got out to a 5-1 lead after the first period, but the Tmen narrowed the gap to 5-3 through 40 minutes.

The Thunder pulled away in the final frame by outscoring the Timbermen 5-2.

Nanaimo was led by leading scorer Zach Manns who had two goals plus an assist and was named the game's second star.

Justin Geddie made 33 stops in net.

The next night the Tmen had a rebound performance in Maple Ridge with an 8-5 win over the Burrards.

Both teams fired 46 shots on goal, with Justin Geddie earning 41 saves and first star in the win.

Offensively Jerrett Smith sparked the team with a two goal night and third star honours.

After a hard-earned victory the Timbermen improved to 2-2 on the season.

This week the Tmen will host the Burnaby Lakers at 7pm on Friday June 9 and the Coquitlam Adanacs on Saturday June 10 at 5pm.

Nanaimo should have some extra roster depth with the return to the lineup of players like Devlin Shanahan and Ryan Sheridan.
