T-Men Snag Another Win!

July 06, 2009

It was another exciting night in Frank Crane Arena on Saturday. The Timbermen were hosting the Burnaby Lakers, and were coming off of their first home win last weekend against the Maple Ridge Burrards. The T-men came out of the tunnel pumped and ready to play, although Burnaby scored the first goal of the game less than two minutes in, a quick one by Tom Johnson. The Timbermen, however, were quick to answer, as Scott Ranger netted one past the Lakers goaltender to tie things up at 1-1, with nice assists from Myles Kenny and Ryan Clark. Johnson then scored another to bring the Lakers up one to the Timbermen, but once again Ranger scored to tie it up, from Kenny and Cayle Ratcliff.

The Timbermen opened up the second period scoring, with Clark scoring his sixth point of the season, with an assist from Kenny, but Burnaby answered right back with a goal from Calvin Craig, and then just over a minute later, Ryan Campbell came back with a quick goal from Brad Scott and Ranger. Again, Burnaby answered right back with an unassisted goal from Johnson. And once again, the T-men powered back with another goal from Ranger, his third of the night, to pull the home team ahead. Ranger currently is in fourth place in points standings, with 17 assists and a league-leading 24 goals. Burnaby wouldn't get another chance to score in the second, as Nanaimo's Mike Morrison scored to take them ahead 6-4 going into the third.

The third period was more of a see-saw battle against the two teams, with Campbell scoring a powerplay goal for the T-men while Neil Arbogast was in the box for an unsportsmanlike, then Jim Southall scored for the Lakers. The battle continued as Shane Pederson netted one past Burnaby goalie Andrew Leyshon, with assists from Andrew Kirkaldy and Kyle Couling. Burnaby managed to squeak one last goal past Matt King, keeping their hopes alive for a win. However, Russell Thomas crushed that dream the instant he scored an unassisted goal at 9:40 of the third. The Timbermen scored one last goal, a nice one from Graeme Ross and Kenny, to secure their win. The game ended with very few whistles and stoppages in play, making for a very exciting, fast-paced game. The final score of the game was 10-6 for the T-men. The stars of the game from your T-men were Mike Morrison with the second star, with one goal and two assists, and Scott Ranger as first star, with three goals and one assist in the game.

The next game for the Timbermen is Thursday, July 9th, in New Westminster against the Salmonbellies. The next home game is Saturday, July 11th, against the second-place Salmonbellies. The game starts at 7:00 at Frank Crane Arena, come out and support your Nanaimo Timbermen!
