Timbermen Lose Another Heart Breaker
June 23, 2009
The Nanaimo Timbermen were in Coquitlam on Saturday night for game two of
their road trip. Game two was just as exciting as the first, with the T-men
playing right up to par with the second-place Adanacs. The boys were fired
up after their win the night before in Burnaby, and hoped to keep the
momentum alive during this tough game against Coquitlam.
The first period was dominated by the Timbermen, with Scott Ranger and Brad
Scott scoring less than 5 minutes in. Kaleb Toth and Brad Scott assisted on
Ranger's goal, while Stirling Mitchell assisted on Scott's goal. Darryl
Veltman of Coquitlam then scored their first of the game on a power play to
make the score 2-1 for the T-men, but not 40 seconds later, Ranger netted
his second of the game, with assists from Toth and Mike Morrison. However,
later in the period, while on another power play, Coquitlam scored another
goal, to bring the team within one from the T-men. The game was looking like
a tight one, before Scott Ranger scored his third of the game, with another
assist from Scott. The Timbermen finished up the first period with a
well-deserved 4-2 lead on the Adanacs.
The second period was a scoring free-for-all for both teams, keeping the
see-saw battle alive. The T-men opened up the scoring less than a minute in,
with Shane Pederson scoring one unassisted, furthering Nanaimo's lead.
Coquitlam ended up scoring two more goals before Cayle Ratcliff scored his
first of the game at 10:48, with assists from Toth and Ryan Campbell.
Unfortunately, that was the last goal of the period for the T-men, before
Coquitlam scored 4 more goals, to end the period with a score of 9-6 for the
Adanacs.
The third frame started out, once again, in favour of the Timbermen, with
Brad Scott scoring his fourth point of the night, with an assist from Toth
at a minute and thirty in. Coquitlam scored once more, and then Toth scored
his first of the game, with assists from Campbell and Ranger. Nanaimo
continued to score, with Campbell scoring, upping his points to 3 during the
game, with assists from Morrison and Ranger. Nanaimo continued to be a
force, with Andrew Kirkaldy scoring his first of the game, with more assists
from both Ranger and Toth. The score was 11-10 in favour of the Adanacs. The
T-men were not to be underhanded, as Ryan Campbell also continued to take
over, netting his second goal of the game with help from Scott and Morrison.
And then, less than two minutes later, another goal came for the T-men, this
time solely by the hands of Graham Palmer. The Nanaimo boys were ahead by
one, looking for their second win in a row, before Jason Wulder of Coquitlam
snuck one past Matt King to tie the game back up at 12, and to force
overtime for the two teams.
Because overtime is not sudden death, Coquitlam scored three times in OT,
but not before Ryan Campbell scored his third and final goal of the game.
The final score of the game was 15-13 in favour of the Adanacs, although the
T-men definitely played well on par with Coquitlam, who are currently in
second place in the standings.
Next up is another road game against the first-place Victoria Shamrocks.
Although the T-men had a rough game versus the Shamrocks last weekend, they
are hoping to step it up. The next home game for the Timbermen is this
Saturday, June 27th versus the Maple Ridge Burrards, at 7:00.
