T-Men Lose Nail-Biter in Langley

June 11, 2009

The Nanaimo Timbermen lost a heartbreaker see-saw game against the Langley Thunder last night at the Langley Event Centre, playing hard right until the very last minute, forcing overtime.

The T-men were ready and raring to go at the 7:00 face-off. Langley opened up the scoring in the brand-new arena, with two goals within the first 4 minutes of the game. Kaleb Toth then put one up for the Timbermen at 4:53 with an assist from Cayle Ratcliff. Langley continued to outscore the T-men in the first period, scoring three more goals, two of which were shorthanded. The T-men were shorthanded after a Kyle McInnes roughing penalty, but with one second remaining in the first, Shane Pederson put another one on the board for Nanaimo. The Timbermen went into the dressing room hoping to keep the momentum alive during the second.

The second period started with a bang for the T-men, with Toth netting his second of the game just 57 seconds in on a powerplay. The powerplay continued to be a strength for the boys, as Scott Ranger put another one past Langley goalie Joe Bell at 9:10. Nanaimo continued the scoring, with Ranger netting his second of the game, unassisted.

The teams went into the third at a 5-5 tie, and continued to fight it out until Toth scored his third goal of the game at 7:32, and continued his point streak with his fourth goal of the game just one second later. Less than three minutes later, Ryan Campbell scored another one for the T-men, with an assist from Toth at 10:31. Brad Scott scored one final goal for the T-men at 12:00 of the third, however, Langley fought back hard during the third, with four more goals to tie the game up. The game was forced into overtime, and unfortunately, after a minor penalty from Aaron Vanderhorst, Kyle Belton of Langley scored the winning goal at 3:47 of the final frame, making the final score 10-9. The first star of the game was Kaleb Toth, who had 4 goals, 4 assists and 11 shots in the game. Toth currently has 18 points, and is tied for 7th scoring leader in the league.
