Road Wins Are Hard to Come by for Timbermen
June 9, 2009
On Saturday June 6th the Nanaimo Sr.A Timbermen boarded the ferries and
headed to Coquitlam looking for their first win of the season. The Timbermen
are 0-3-1 so far with their only point coming on the road. With a new
coaching staff leading the way, the Timbermen had high hopes for this road
game.
Things were looking good for the Timbermen at the start as they went goal
for goal in the first 5 minutes with goals coming from Cayle Ratcliff and
Scott Ranger. Unfortunately, momentum changed around the 14th minute of the
first period with two back- back goals from the Adanacs. The period ended
with a 5-2 advantage for the home team.
The Timbermen continued to be dominated in the second period with the
Adanac's scoring early and often before Scott Ranger slowed the bleeding
with his second goal. Ryan Campbell and Cayle Ratcliff also added some
points to the board for the Timbermen, but Nanaimo remained stuck with a
13-5 disadvantage heading into the third.
The Timbermen were looking for a big burst in the final 20 minutes of the
game but Coquitlam quickly put an end to any hope the Timbermen had. Just 50
seconds into the third, the Adanacs scored their 14th goal. The Timbermen
continued to push forward, scoring three goals in the final period. Ranger,
who had two goals in the first two, put two more on the board in the final
20 minutes while Brad Scott netted the other Nanaimo goal. The final score
of the game was 16-8.
Next game for the Timbermen is on Wednesday June 10th against the Langley
Thunder, another road game and another chance for the Timbermen to move up
in the standings. The Timbermen's next home game is on Saturday June 13th
against the Victoria Shamrocks. Call 250-754-1004 to order your tickets in
