T-Men Still Looking for First Win of Season
June 1, 2009
It was a battle against one of the best teams in the WLA at Frank Crane
Arena on Saturday night. The fans came in with high anticipation hoping to
see their Nanaimo Senior A Timbermen play a tough game versus the New
Westminster Salmonbellies. Unfortunately, the Timbermen were left still
looking for their first victory of the year.
New Westminster came out hard in the first period, scoring the fist goal
only 45 seconds in. They continued to dominate, scoring four more goals that
period, until hometown hero Scott Ranger put one in for the Timbermen at
14:35 of the first. Ranger has 10 points in 3 games this season and
continues to take on a leadership role with this year's squad. The game
remained at 5-1 in favor of the Salmonbellies for the remainder of the
period.
The second period started out promising, with the players increasing their
effort level, and Kaleb Toth scoring his second of the season at 2:42. The
Salmonbellies then showed why they remain near the top of standings and
scored another three goals in the second. Graham Palmer opened up the
scoring in the third with his first of the season at 9:24, making the score
8-3 for New Westminster. The Salmonbellies went on to score four more goals,
making the final score 12-3.
The Timbermen are currently 0-2-1 but still find themselves only three
points out of a playoff spot. The T-men hit the road June 5th to play the
Coquitlam Adanacs. The next home game for the T-men is Saturday, June 13th
against the Victoria Shamrocks. Call the Timbermen office at 250-754-1004 to
