The Nanaimo Timbermen's mini-winning streak came to a halt in Maple Ridge Sunday night. Following their 17-13 win over the Coquitlam Adanacs on Saturday for their second win in a row, the Timbermen's momentum was derailed by the Maple Ridge Burrards, 14-10. The Timbermen's record in the Western Lacrosse Association is 3-6, good enough for fifth spot in the standings
The last time both sides met, it was low-scoring with the Timbermen prevailing by a narrow 4-3 scoreline at NIC, ending a five game losing slide.
But Sunday night, it was a different story. The Timbermen took the early lead on Ryan Keith's power play goal 52 seconds into the first period. But it was shortlived as the Burrards took control, scoring three unanswered goals, one on the man advantage. The Timbermen stopped the bleeding when Keith scored his second goal of the night with 50 seconds left in the period. The Burrards never let up as they netted five more goals while allowing the Timbermen only two goals from Keith and Scott Ranger to lead 8-4 at the end of the second period.
In the final frame, Lewis Ratcliff got the Timbermen off to a flying start, scoring two goals in just over two minutes of play. But the Burrards fought back and exchanged goals to deny the Timbermen any chance of a comeback. Keith led the Timbermen with three goals with Lewis Ratcliff netting two goals and assisted in four others. Ranger had a goal and four assists.
