Webster Ready to take Reigns
May 28, 2010
When Jeff Ranger Sr. took over as Interim Head Coach mid way through the 2009 season, he inherited a lacrosse team in serious peril. What Ranger
provided was a steadying hand and a calming force to a team that needed just that. Ranger knew he would remain in that role until the Timbermen management could find the "right guy for the job". Well consider the search over. Effective immediately, Art Webster will take over the duties of Head Coach for the Tmen. The decision to make the switch was entirely mutual, and Sr. can now step aside feeling comfortable that the organization has the right piece of the puzzle in place.
Webster's lacrosse resume is extensive to say the least. His career as a player spanned four decades, including time with the Victoria Shamrocks and the Brampton Excelsiors. Webster amassed 621 points in 558 games, and captured two Mann Cup titles in 1979 and 1983. The legend was inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame on November 10, 2007. As a coach, Webster served as a defensive coordinator for Victoria; he helped lead the team to five straight Mann Cup showings, including two titles in 2003 and 2005. Webster shared the WLA Coach of the Year award with Walt Christianson in 2002. Last year, he steered the Shamrocks into the Mann Cup playoffs in his first year as head coach. Webster is currently the Assistant Coach of the reigning NLL Champion Washington Stealth.
The Nanaimo Timbermen would like to express our deepest gratitude to Jeff Ranger Sr. for his services with the team. Ranger provided the framework and stability for the team to survive a tough 2009 season, and enter the 2010 season feeling confident in the direction things were headed.
